What worked: This is a high energy soap opera romp through space. Think Breakfast Club meets Firefly. There's action, suspense, hints of romance, and a heist. For sure this will appeal to fans of Guardians of the Galaxy with it's punchy dialogue and diverse characters.
I liked the premise of four so-called smart kids that end up being rejected by an elite academy in outer space. Nax is that hot-shot teen who thinks he had a sure shot at being accepted, but is beyond upset when he isn't. There's also Chase, the brilliant teen; Zee, the athletic girl; and Rion, the politician son. All of them are set to return to Earth when they witness a terrible tragedy. This is where the action and tension move the story line along at a fast pace. There's also lots of punchy, hilarious dialogue throughout.
One thing I felt that was missing was the lack of chemistry between the characters. Sure, there are flirtatious moments between Rion, Chase, and Nax, but I wanted more. Also though there is great action, I would have liked the story to slow down for a moment so we could get to know the characters more.
Overall though, this story is sure to appeal to fans of Sci-Fi adventures. Readers can't help but wonder what other adventures this cast of characters will encounter.
Compelling soap opera romp through space with a diverse cast and high energy.
