This fabulous story about a girl. Who begins to see things other can't. By chance she comes across kids who may or may not be just like her. As her world is turned up side down. By the disappearance of her mother. Forcing her to turn to people she barely knows. It's up to her and her new and old friends to save her mother and set her world straight. Which may never be again.

From the moment Clary and Jace met I wanted them together. This was exciting and full of twists. Now Isabelle and Clary becoming friends, did'nt see that one comming. I like the way Clary comes into her own and gets stuff done, without being a girl about it. The Silent Brothers were a bit confusing to me. Were they really there to help or what? I really enjoyed this book so I gave it a 4. Starting the next book now.

From back cover: THEIR HIDDEN WORLD IS ABOUT TO BE REVEALED& When fifteen-year old Clary Fray heads out to Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but its hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.
Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clarys mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.
But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundane like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know&

Favorite characters, quotes/lines: Clary: I liked her prickliness, it seemed to draw in and instead of keep other characters out& like Jace; Simon: he was very funny and very nerdy (two of my very favorite qualities!), I was glad that he was Clarys best friend (and no more); Jace: he is the type of guy that I always love in books& tough on the outside, but all mush on the inside& and I love that only Clary really sees this side of him. Im totally rooting for them!

When I finished this book I felt: I finished this book in one day (in between waiting on people at Subway mostly&) then I finished it at home and read City of Ashes right away that night. Thats how good these books are. If I owned City of Glass I would have read that one directly after the first two. There are some books that draw you in and just dont let you go until you know every twist and every character inside and out and The Mortal Instruments series are those kinds of books. They are addictive. I honestly cannot imagine what I would have done if I finished City of Bones and then had to wait for City of Ashes and Glass to come out& I probably would have gone insane&

Other books to read by this author: City of Ashes, City of Glass, The Infernal Devices (a trilogy to be published that will be a set of prequels to the Mortal Instuments trilogy)

I would recommend this book to: Fantasy/scifi lovers& girls and guys!

this book was one of the more creative new after 2000's teen book out there it didnt follow the same story line as what i like to call (twilight wanna be books) in the past years. its full of twists and turns ones you see coming and ones that will shock you clare dosent write in the same point of view as many of the authers now she lets you see and understand how every characterr is thinking and yet leaves you with enough questions so you do not want to put the book down i would recamend this book to anyone who liked twilight, or the house of night serise it gives you a little of everything romance action plot twists and seems to be writtin as a black comody girls will love it but theres enough action to keep the men interested as well read this book it really is worth your time!

Clary had no idea how much her life would change when she walked
into Pandemonium Club with her best friend Simon. At the club, she sees
three strange teenagers kill someone. The weirdest part? After they
killed the boy, the body completely vanishes! Clary learns that the
teenages, Jace, Isabelle, and Alec are a part of a group called
Shadowhunters. Shadowhunters free the world from demons. Clary soon
learns that she and her mother are a part of this mysterious world&

I was overjoyed when I learned that I would receive this book from
the Pulse It program back in April. I had been wanting to read the
series for some time. Luckily, I was not disappointed. City of Bones
was filled with twists and turns, which made me want to keep reading.
The characters were also very likable. My favorites were Clary, Jace,
and Simon. Almost every character had a hidden past, and reading about
it was probably my favorite part of the novel. The past revealed that
things were not like they originally seemed. This is kind of random and
insignificant to the novel, but another part that I really enjoyed was
this quote:

He raised an eyebrow, which made Clary instantly jealous. Shed always wanted to be able to do that.

I have always wanted to be able to raise my eyebrow one at a time too! Seriously, I love watching people do it!

On a more important note, the only thing I did not like about the novel was the pacing. The pacing is very controlled.
By controlled, I mean most readers will probably have read the book
slightly slower than an average book to understand all the
descriptions. Its almost as if Clare is saying to readers, I know you
want to find out whats going to happen next, but Id rather torment
you with insignificant(, yet interesting) details. Muahaha! It is hard
for this type of pacing to work well for a fantasy novel, especially
for City of Bones.  When I read a fantasy novel, I want a book a fast-paced, action-filled novel. While City of Bones had plenty of action, I would not call it a fast-paced novel.

Still, City of Bones is a great start to series, and now I really want to read the other novels!

City of bones, was the most, infuriating, upsetting, unable to put done book I have ever read.  I'm Not the one to go for the types of books that mys to fallen inlove people found that their siblings and not know how to un-tangle this problem.  But this is a book that i find i can never put it down, its really good, and heart pounding but yet very, upsetting. below is a summary of it.

A girl named Clary Fray, suddenly gets this sight, that she thought she never had, and sooner finds out that shes had it all along it was just under a spell by a high Warlock and her mother Jocelyn.  Clary fray's whole life changes after she meets the shadow hunters at a club in New York City.  She Goes from a girl that thought her father died before she was born, to  girl that finds out that she has a bother that she has fallen madly in love with, and has a evil father named Valentine.

Both of her parents are shadowhunters what makes her, full ShadowHunter herself. But later in the second book she finds that  she has special powers that no other shadowhunter knew a shadowhunter could have.  And finds that its alot harder to get out of love when you see your long lost brother everyday, looking as hot as he does.

Spolier: beware.
( i think that they are not sibilings, becuase this is Valentine their talking about, they say he is so charming you'll never know a lie from the truth.)

My friends had me addicted to one series (The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer) for over four years. I refused to read anything BUT that series until my best friend practically shoved this book down my throat.
When I first began the book, I was a little confused. My friend had promised romance and vampires and werewolves... something I was longing so desperatly for... I caught myself (atleast for the first 3 chapters) waiting for Edward Cullen or Jacob Black to magically appear and kick some Shadowhunter butt.
I then realized that I was unable to put the book down. I began to catch myself in class (when I wasn't reading) daydreaming about Jace Wayland (the "Edward Cullen" of the book). I began wondering what would happen next. Would Clary figure out Simon was crazy about her?
When I finished the book, I was hungry for more. I wanted the second book so desperatly, that I got up at 10 PM, drove over to my best friends' (the one who reccommended the book to me) house and took her book (just because the book store was closed).

To those of you who are addicted to one book series, be prepared to drop that and come to The Immortal Instruments series By Cassandra Clare...it will truly blow your mind.

I stumbled onto this book by accident, but I am so glad I did. It's an intense page turner about shadowhunters. Shadowhunters are a group of people half human half angel who slay demons. The characters are realistic and fresh and the plot is intense. This book has something for everyone including faeries, vampires and werewolfs - Brilliant.
