Mia Thermopolis is just an ordinary high school student that thinks her life sucks. Right when shes struggling through freshman algebra, she finds out that shes a princess of a small principality, Genovia, in Europe. Her father had testicular cancer, so now shes the only heir to the thrown. Not only that, but her mother and her algebra teacher, Mr. Gianini are dating. Her best friend Lilly Moscovitz doesnt understand why shes so upset about being a princess. She has to have a bodyguard follow her around school. All she ever wanted was a normal life, but now she has so much to endure, like Princess Lessons from Grandmère. Grandmère is very strict and harsh with her. Mia must attend Princess Lessons everyday after school and cant stand them.

With all of her problems, there is one good thing. Mia meets Tina Hakim Baba, and they become great friends. Tina also has a bodyguard, so they end up having a lot in common with each other.

The boy of her dreams, Josh Richter, asks her to go to the Cultural Diversity Dance with him. He even broke up with his popular cheerleading girlfriend, Lana Weinberger to do so. When they show up at the dance, Mia finds out that he was just using her to get publicity and end up on a magazine cover. Shes completely humiliated, but things start to look up when Michael Moscovitz, Lillys brother, shows up. They end up spending the rest of the dance together, and Mia starts to like Michael, and he seems to like her too.

This book is a thriller for teen girls. Meg Cabot portrays high school in a very interesting way that makes the book great. Mia goes through a bunch of struggles but gets the ending that she deserves. This book has a very romantic ending.

Mia Thermopolis is just a regular teenager, full of the whole awkward stage thing where she just wants to grow up and stuff all her problems. But problems want to be found because suddenly Mia learns that she's the sole heir to a throne of a small country. Mia's a princess.

I love Meg Cabot because this book was the one that caught my interest. I always love the first books, because quite simply: they're almost always the most orignial ones. Yet, Cabot adds an extra flair with the intense humor. I really couldn't help but laughing out loud at many times. And just the events described, they seemed so real.

I'd definitely recommend this one.

What can I say about this book? ITS SO GOOD! Mia is a great role model to girls, and people can learn from her. I love the way Meg Cabot describes Mia as a total dork in the beginning--then at the end she is a graceful princess.
The book is better than the movie, because the book has so many more details. The movie skips so much!
Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope you get the book!

The Princess Diaries is about Amilia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia, the only catch is that she doesn't know that yet. All her life, she's lived in the Village in New York City, with her mom and only visited her dad and grandmere during the summer. She's very unpopular, failing algebra, 5ft9in, and flat-chested, so the last thing she expects she'll ever be is a princess. When her dad finds out he can no longer bare children, him and amelia's mom are forced to tell Mia that's she's next in line for the thron of Genovia. Now, along with trying to deal with the fact that her mom is dating her algebra teacher, she has to go to princess lessons with her not-so-loving grandmere. Mia is not excited. When she thinks nothing else could go wrong, she wakes up one morning to find her picture on the cover of the Post. OH NO!

I enjoyed reading this book, but not as much as i thought i would. It just didn't attract me as much as the movie(which is completely different from the book). I would recommend it to all Meg Cabot fans and fans of the Princess Diary Movie.

this first book was very awesome! I really loved it! How would you feel if you were a nerd (no offense, Mia) and you suddenly realized that you were a princess? Shocked? Of course. I found this book much better than the movie. You'll find yourself reading the rest of the series!

The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot is a remarkable novel about a high-school freshman named Mia Thermopolis who lives in New York City with her mother,an artist.Mia keeps a journal to record her thoughts about dealing with the stresses of everyday life, her mom dating her algebra teacher, and being madly in love with the most popular boy in school(who of course, has no idea of her crush).

In addition to flunking her algebra, she has just found out that she is the princess of a small nation and has to take princess lessons after school with her grand-mere.

This is a funny and sweet novel that is great for teen girls. If you ever wished you were a princess, this story might make you think again. Meg Cabot is working on the ninth book in the series, there's lots more to read.

This novel makes you grateful for who you are and for your family,no matter how wacky they may be.It is an entertainment and an all-around great read.If you are looking for some good chick-lit, this is the book for you.

I have to say, i really loved this book. I do not understand however why these movie producers make the movies look so much worse than the book. This same thing happened to ELLA ENCHANTED which also starred anne hathaway, who is a great actress. So those movie guys out there, op messing up the appearance of the books! Meg cabot is a great author!

The princess Diaries is a good book but if you have seen the movie before you read the book you would not lie it. It is far too different from the movie, and I have to admit that I like the movie better. In the book Mia had something about her that made her less normal-seeming then she was in the movie, she seemed more rebelious. Her grandmother smoked and she was not nearly as kind-from-the-start as she was in the movie. Her grandmother told Mia to do a lot of the opposite things then she was instructed in the movie. For instance, Mia was told to paint her nails and not keep them clean. It was still a good book and I would decommend it to people, but It was too different for my taste.

I was pretty hesitant to start reading the Princess diaries series by Meg Cabot because I really wasn't a big fan of the movies, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised! The books were fun, and full of pop culture references. The characters are wonderful, and reading the books is like reading a note from your best friend.
Basically the story follows Mia a freshman of Albert Einstein High school in New York City, her parents are separated her mom being an artist and her father a prominent Politian in the fictional European country of Genovia. Though Mia's life changes drastically when she finds out her father is actually a royal, and she is a princess. This series is light hearted and fun, you should definitely give these books a try.

i read this book the first time when i was in 5th grade. I recently read it again, and i cant believe i had forgotten how good it was. Meg Cabot does an amazing job in writing like a teenager...i mean, thats exactly how I think! i fell in love with Mia's personality right away. and when she found out she was the royal princess of Genovia...well, i cracked up! she didnt seem to happy about it but, i personally think i would be throwing a party!
