Eighteen-year-old Princess Leonie "Leo" Kolburg has a title, but not much else. She's heir to an older European spaceship. When the annual Valg Season comes around, her father 'hopes' she'll land an engagement with a rich suitor in order to save what's left of their family fortune. Then her childhood friend and first love Elliot reappears, richer and a 'catch'. He's also hiding a secret. Leo tries to fight the attraction she still has for Elliot while navigating the Valg Season.

What worked: I loved this space opera, adventure with two former loves that come back together amidst royal intrigue and more! It has a Wuthering Heights meets Space appeal.

Leo is smart, pragmatic, and trying to get a patent on one of her inventions so she doesn't have to marry in order to save whatever is left of her family's fortune. The Valg Season is totally like the Bachelorette, where girls of means and titles try to secure a husband. The contrast is that there are only a few that are wealthy and titled, while most others on the other spaceships struggle with just surviving. Leo wants to help those people, but fights against an archaic system.

Elliot has a big secret. He once was the son of Leo's father's valet. Now he's heir to his own spaceship that has whiskey. Leo is intrigued at first and tries to fight off the obvious attraction. Her sixteen-year-old sister and cousin also try to get close to Elliot.

The Bachelorette meets royal intrigue in Outer Space. Set amidst the balls of Valg Season where most truths are hidden behind glittery masks. A very satisfying companion novel to BRIGHTLY BURNING.
