as you brought through the story of Hannah Baker you get to hear EXACTLY why she commited suicide. You get brought through each emotion of EVERYTHING that can be brought throught teen life in the new generation. Note:parents of teens shouldn't read this.

I see the end as a sort of triumph.

The minute I read the back summary of the book, I knew I had to read it. The second I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. This book is about a girl who commits suicide but not before leaving 13 tapes explaining why she did it. As I read through the book, I started feeling her emotions and thinking about how one little thing that you do can change people's life without you noticing it. It is truly an amazing book about life lessons and no doubt, is the story of many people out there.

7 tapes. 13 reasons. 13 people that are all conected in one way. they all had something to do with the death of hannah baker. but there's a twist she killed herself. and the reason is one these tapes. the reason is those 13 people.


i cried in this book many times. but i loved every second of it. i could picture myself in the book. it was so well written that it felt like i was watching a movie rather than reading a book. i highly suggest this book!

After seeing positive review after positive review of this book I finally decided to read it. Although it is not a favorite of mine the book is powerful and realistic.

As silly as this will sound, one of my favorite parts of this book was how it showed pictures of the buttons Clay pushed while he did it. This visual aid felt like I was the one who was pressing the buttons and listening to the tapes adding a whole new eerie feeling and layer of drama.

Usually books about murder (Ann Rule's in particular) and mysteries are my favorite, but this book only seemed to creep me out. Instead of finding a small amount of light during dark events, the book continued to spiral deeper and deeper. On top of all of this, Hannah seemed so calm about all of it, leaving me completely horrified.

Although this book is fiction -loosely based on several; real events- the fact that Hannah felt so helpless and was too scared to even find help makes it feel so real. After finishing the book I started thinking about as many people as I could, and trying to find similarities.

I am sad to say this book disappointed me. On the bright side, I enjoy Asher's writing style and hope to read more of his work in the future.

I just finishing reading this book in two days and for me thats something. This book is about a girl (hannah baker) who killed herself and she made 7 tapes to 13 students in her high school before she did. Each tape side was dedicated to one person that made her life in high school harder then she can imagine. Clay is one of the people that has a tape and it is his turn to listen to them. The author made you feel that you are pushing play and stop with clay. It is a great book for teens and adults that forgot how it's like in high school. Great read!

This book made me feel like I knew the girl who was making the tapes. Ita bout a girl who commited suicide and left 13 tapes behind for people to listen to. It tells them how they all relate to her life and to her killing herself. I loved this book a lot.

Wow. I literally just finished this book and reading Hannah Baker's last spoken words has given me goose bumps, although I know she isn't real. In this heart breaking story about a high school kid who opens his door one evening to find a package addressed to him and inside finds seven audio tapes, each with a different story on them spoke by Hannah Baker, a girl who the narrator had been crushing on until she committed suicide only a while before the tapes arrived.

As he listens, he learns that the people who's stories are on the tapes are the 13 reasons why Hannah killed herself and, as the novel goes on, he begins to worry about why it is that he has made it onto these tapes. After the final word is spoken, he has his time to reflect and change the future.

This powerful novel discusses lost and despair as well as the fact that one cannot change the past. Beautifully written with a voice that speaks out from the pages, "Th1rteen R3asons Why" is an amazing novel.

Clay Jensen found a shoe box filled with cassette tapes when he came home from school. The package had his name on it and when he opened it, he found that the cassette tapes were from his classmate, Hannah Baker, who had committed suicide just two weeks before. At first, he thought he had nothing to do with her death, however, when he pressed play on the first cassette, he found that he was one of the reasons why she had committed suicide. Her voice tells him that if he continues to listen, hell find out why. There are seven tapes with thirteen different people and thirteen different reasons why she had felt compelled to die. Before her death, he had received a map and using the map as a reference; he went and traveled to each of her appointed destinations. Through out the night, Clay traveled and listened to each of her reasons. He becomes a first-hand witness to Hannahs pain and learns the truth about himself something that he had never wanted to face. This book started as a flashback, the morning after he had finished listening to the tapes, and ended with Clay learning to overcome his weakness allowing him to spread out his hands and help others. This book has a strong sense of reality and will keep you hooked.

Summary: Clay has just received cassettes that tell the story of his used-to-be crush's life, Hannah, who committed suicide. She explains her thirteen reasons to end her life and Clay (as well as the other 12 people) have to hear them. Throughout the stories, the 13 people will learn what really happened and everything Hannah has been through.

My Thoughts:
Hannah was amazingly well written. I understood everything she said. Clay got kind of annoying because he kept thinking in his mind as he was hearing the tapes. The ending is good. Mr. Porter made me angry, what kind of counselor speaks like that? It was intriguing. It got more and more serious as the book went on because at first I was like why would you kill yourself for that? I liked how everything was interconnected (if this happens, then it causes this). It was a great book. Go read it now!

When Clay receives a box of audio tapes in the mail, he's shocked to find they're a narrative from Hannah Baker, a classmate-- and crush-- who recently killed herself. Then he's horrified when she says these tapes have come to him for a reason-- because he's one of the thirteen people who led her to her decision.

Over the course of a long and tortorous night, Clay listens to all thirteen tapes, which go into detail about what caused Hannah's suicide. The book is set up like an eerie dialogue, as Clay responds to Hannah's words, but she obviously will never hear him.

There are a few twists in the narrative, but the way the story is told is the novelty, not the story itself. Clay is guilt-ridden but otherwise non-descript, and Hannah is bitter and self-pitying. The ending is not the greatest (a little too neat in its parallels), but it's an interesting, if pretty depressing, read.

(I would call it a fourteen and up book, though... definitely not for twelve year olds!!)
