Wil Greene demands to know what happened to her missing mother. No one takes her seriously, but when she finds hints that the local pastor of the Garden of Adam is involved in secretive activities? She is more determined to find out the truth. Her former friend Elwood, the son of the pastor, has been no help. But when he runs away, Wil reluctantly asks for his help in uncovering the mystery behind her mother's disappearance. Only what they discover is a monstrous secret that involves Elwood. A secret that might destroy everyone, including those she loves.
What worked: Intriguing twist on Veronica Mars meets a local deadly cult. Here the Biblical story of Abraham and sacrificing his only son is taken literally. Only here there is a paranormal element on what happens to the victims.
Wil's determination to discover the truth behind her mother's disappearance leads her to do things that others, including the local sheriff, frown on. Her persistence and refusal to take no for an answer leads her on a trail that has deadly consequences.
Elwood is sensitive and hates how his curiosity is beaten out of him by his controlling, abusive father. The relationship between him and Wil is a slow burn and ends with something much more.
Action-driven with a creepy, sinister secret that the Garden of Adam cult holds over the town. I really wanted more between the characters and thought the action and mystery at times rushed the story. The ending is bittersweet.
Fascinating premise of a cult with sinister intentions and the girl who is willing to do anything to save the boy she cares for.
