At first I wasn’t totally sure about this book because of what the reviews said of how women in this book are treated, but I decided to give it a try and ended up falling in love with this book. The whole women inequality did get annoying but I loved how Serena silently rebelled and pressed her luck. I liked the idea that a girl grows up set in the ways of her world, and then started to silently rebel against those who repress her. This book really centered on her and her lifestyle. I loved this plot idea and I loved how the author pulled it off. It had great flow and the setting was great.
Serena is such an amazingly strong character. It’s not exactly known that she’s strong at he start of reading the book because it takes a while getting used to the way the community runs and how women are treated. Then some details about Serena are explained and it shines through the book just how strong she has had to be and continues to be. She was always pushing the boundaries on what is acceptable and I loved how she never really bowed down all the way. She was always cutting corner on the rules and I loved her rebellious streak. It made the book and the inequality so much more bearable.
Zade was such a mysterious character because his purpose and his beliefs weren’t talked about a lot and weren’t really disclosed. I loved the way he acted toward Serena because he wasn’t cruel and wasn’t used to her subservient behavior. I thought that the chemistry between the two was great and I loved their interactions. They were so uncertain with each other and I loved trying to figure out Zade’s angle.
Overall this book was pretty great and I loved how the author managed to put it together. I was a little over whelmed with how the society was governed in this book but I was able to get past it when I learned more about Serena and what she went through as she tried to figure out her own role in society. I can’t wait to read more books in this series.
