Jess Mastriani is back from working with the FBI to track down terrorists and she's lost not only her violent tendencies, but her powers for tracking down missing people as well. She heads to New York where she trains in a prestigious musical academy and dreads everyday of playing her flute. Fortunately, her best friend Ruth and her brother Mike are with her, unfortunately, so is Skip, Ruth's brother who still has a crush on Jess. Jess tries to live a "normal" life, or as close to normal as she'll ever get to until one day, a person from her past knocks on her door. If you've read the series, you can probably tell that I'm talking about Rob, who comes back just as mysterious and tempting as the first time Jess met him, but this time he needs her help. Rob's sister is missing and only "Lightning Girl" herself can help him find her. Jess was already mad at Rob for many things and even if she still had her powers, she probably wouldn't have helped. She does manage to see a photo of Rob's sister and the next day her powers have come back and she's headed to her hometown where many things have changed and most of them, not for the better. As she and Rob track down his sister, they are lead into a dangerous world and Jess struggles to find the only person she can't track down: herself.
