Robert Smith goes into the hospital for a routine check. When he regains consciousness, he hears the operating team's appalled comments about his internal organs: "What is that? Look at that." "These silvery filaments . . ." And, worst of all, a whisper directed toward Robert: "What the hell are you?"
When an ominous person directs the surgeon to "cut that thing open," Robert is galvanized into action, setting off a danger-filled escape. Soon, he is on the run, accused of a murder he didn't commit and pondering the question of who--or what--he really is.
Thriller and science fiction fans should devour BEING, even though the rapid pace lags a bit at times and some may find the ending to be too inconclusive to be satisfying. The intriguing central question will cause readers to ponder long after they finish the book.
