lovely picture book about nature
WHEN THE SAKURA BLOOM is a lovely picture book about the magical feeling around blooming Sakura. Told from the perspective of the trees, they witness the hustle and bustle of the people rushing in the mornings. As spring arrives and they begin to bloom, something changes and people begin to pay more attention to their surroundings and celebrate the trees. After a storm takes the petals away, the trees grow leaves and fruit, once again witnessing the hustle and bustle of people below.
What I loved: This was such a lyrically written read that rolls off the tongue. The story manages to capture the joy of nature and the beauty of spring told by the trees and demonstrated by the people. There is certainly something magical about flowering trees, and readers may recognize similar experiences from their own towns. The story encourages readers to slow down and enjoy nature. There is also a small amount around the life cycle of trees that could encourage further interest.
With gentle and apt illustrations, the book captures the magic of spring. Clear and easy to read font make this a great choice for reading aloud, and the length of the story will work for toddlers on up.
Final verdict: A lovely picture book that captures the majesty of Sakura blossoms, WHEN THE SAKURA BLOOM is a lyrical read that reminds readers to enjoy the beauty of nature around them.
