Now You Know Your ABCs (Or Do You?) is a clever exploration of the ABC’s while evading a wolf. My young reader enjoyed the invitation to participate in the story by repeating the example words given for A,B,C. Then the story derails at D when a wolf takes the place of the expected dog and each letter after directly pretends the reader is in the story escaping the wolf. The humor, invitation to participate, and the clever incorporation of the alphabet presented in an unfamiliar way would make this book an excellent read aloud for preschool through early elementary readers. The illustrations and simple text would also support emerging readers. Overall, this book was a lot of fun and one I will be keeping for the next time I have a group for read aloud.

NOW YOU KNOW YOUR ABCS (OR DO YOU?) is a charming and silly picture book that will delight young readers. The book begins like your typical alphabet book - until arriving at D, which was for dog - except that is not a dog, it is a wolf! The reader then runs from the wolf, gets away, and then must travel back home, all while visiting the letters of the alphabet along the way.

What I loved: This is a very humorous and fun read, great for children who already know their alphabet and love to laugh. The book uses the alphabet as a framework for the story, but the main plot is escaping from the wolf and then finding a way back home. There's a lot to giggle about along the way, and even though the wolf could be scary, it never feels too much, even for little readers.

The images are colorful and fun, capturing the letters and their words perfectly. The plot feels smooth and entertaining throughout. This is great for preschool and young elementary school readers who can enjoy the story, laugh throughout the plot, and still pick up on some of the phonetic uses of the alphabet to help with early reading. The QR code on the back is great for an audiobook version of the story.

Final verdict: NOW YOU KNOW YOUR ABCS (OR DO YOU?) is a delightfully silly picture book that is sure to charm young readers with a story that really pulls them into the book.
