Kid Review: I’m A Prince by A.H. Benjamin

About This Book:

Bossy Pig is about to learn something important in this light-hearted story about respecting others and being yourself.
When Pig finds a crown one day, he puts it on and says he is a prince. He soon gets bored just sitting on his throne, so decides to play at being royalty –  fighting his friend Lizard, ‘saving’ Squirrell and commanding Rabbit and Badger to dance and bow to him. But when his friends get fed up with his princely antics, Pig learns an important lesson about humility and being yourself.

Power Isn’t Everything

When Pig finds a crown on the ground, he slips it on his head and becomes a prince. With his newfound power, Pig starts to order the other animals around. The more commands he gives out, the more annoyed the others get. However, when there’s true danger, Pig is the first one to jump in to help. Learning the error of his ways, he removes the crown from his head.

I’M A PRINCE is an animal-filled story that teaches children not to boss others around. The illustrations are simple with soft colors and contain a variety of animals. I like how the author also shows the power of forgiveness by the others. Pig learns how to be a better person through this endeavor and that power isn’t everything.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to fans of animals and stories with a good lesson. It’s an easy read for younger children aged four and up.
