Fans of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt will like the holiday twist found in We’re Going on a Present Hunt. The use of bright pink, teal, and purple are striking color choices for a Winter Holiday book but they were very appealing. These three friends pass by many holiday activities while off to get a present. Based on the title I was a bit worried that it might be centered around the characters wanting presents for themselves. It was a happy surprise at the end who they were getting the gift for. A small detail that I wish was included in the illustrations is the children paying for the present. Children’s sense of right and wrong is developing at this age and I could see a child worried that they had just taken the gift or thinking it was fine if they did. Overall, it was a fun read following the same pattern as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt which will be appealing in its familiarity while also being new to read.
