Ari wants to join a local group of kids, but when he gets upset and cries, the leader kicks him out. Only his friend, Leah stands by him. The kids are all surprised when a dragon appears, asking for the bravest one to come with her. She chooses Ari as he can understand what her problem is. Boys and dragons can cry and should without shame or ridicule.
What I Liked: This book has such a positive and important message for young boys. They need to know that crying is okay and a natural human function. No one should be made to feel embarrassed for doing it. I like how the dragon encourages Ari to be honest and this in turn helps her son.
What Left Me Wanting More: I would have liked to see the leader of the gang talk about the issue rather than simply accept Ari back because the dragon called him brave. It would be an important discussion since he had the issue, however, i do like that Ari was made leader of the group.
Final Verdict: Dragons Cry Too teaches boys that we are all human and need to cry sometimes. It does not make you weak. A positive book which could have a real impact on young boys as they start school and interact more with other boys. Highly recommended.
