This is Me is a book about behavioral traits for ages 6-9. There is a lot to like about this informational book. Behaviors with positive and negative connotations are paired with easy-to-understand explanations, such as stubbornness and perseverance. There are many age-appropriate examples with illustrations per term. The vocabulary introduced will help children put words to their actions and feelings and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. When I read this book with a child older than the targeted audience, it filled in knowledge gaps about terms such as hastiness and what that meant.
The only drawback to this book is that the layout seems counterintuitive if a child were to pick it up and read it on their own. Each chapter introduces the two terms with a pictured example. Then on the adjacent page, there is a spectrum of examples with the positive on top and the negative on the bottom, BUT those examples are not labeled with the term they are examples of, AND on the same page, it starts the explanation of the positive term. I could see a child not understanding that those examples are for both terms and not just one, without an adult to guide them through the book.
Overall, this book does a nice job of giving words to help readers understand themselves better. It also ends on a reaffirming note that we all have good and bad days, and that is normal. This is a fantastic addition to social and emotional development, great for caregivers, teachers, and counselors to use with children.
