i thought this book was cut. tells the story of three children who loose their parents in fire that took away their home and changed their lives.
in this book they are sent to live with their distant relative the evil count olaf. count olaf is suspicious from the begining and he forces the children to work for him. the children try to tell their troubles to the bubbling and very cluless mr. poe who doesn't belive them, leaving them to fend for themselves.
this book sounds like it should be rather sad but though it pulls the occasional heartstring it is actually exciting . i found myself cheering for these children.this book is the bad beginig of a wonderful series of unfortunate events.

The first time I read this book was somewhere around fifth grade. At around this time a devastating incident occurred leaving a good friend without a parent. Instantaneously this book appealed to my friends and I. It told the story of recently orphaned children and their struggle to remain alive, remain safe, and more importantly remain a family. The author does a good job of creating humor into this story that is about something so sad. Since the author does a great job, I was able to let my younger sibling read it. The large words were explained, and even if he didnt get the underlying meaning, he was able to read a good book. A must read for a middleschooler.

This book is so cool. It makes me laugh a lot. I really enjoyed it and I finished it really fast. For all ages. My brother and me read it at the same time, and he is 11. He loved it too.

The Bad Beginning is a book that, while written for children, will be enjoyed by all ages. The Baudelaire children will facinate young children with their resourcefulness and courage, and older readers (like parents) will appreciate the book's humor. These books are as good as we've all been led to believe, and parents looking for something to read aloud to their children need look no further than this series.

I didn't like this book a lot, because the book was very short and wasn't long enough for me to get interested. i did kinda like it because of the action.

Follow along with an inventer, a book nut, and a biting baby through misery and very bad luck. Star in a play and one more thing DON'T trust anyone. Because these three Baudelaire orphans have just met Count Olaf and their not happy.

I thought that Lemony did a pretty good job on this book. I am warning you now there is nothing funny about it. It is a mind boggling adventure that will set your mind on edge. What will Count Olaf do next? Read and find out.

Let me start this respectable review with these words.

Lemony Snicket IS THE MAN!! OH YEAH!!

He has a wonderfully British writing style, along with plenty of jokes and puzzles that kept a Sherlock Holmes addict such as myself entertained through every single page. I dare you to find one boring bit in the whole book. Really. I'll give you five dollars.

...Not really, though.

If you've read this book, or any of the other ones from the series then I know you are looking foward to the movie that's about to come out starring Jim Carrey. If you haven't read the book thats ok but you are very odd. The book itself is about 3 rich children who's parents were killed in a fire (accident or murder?) and were left the money. Taken in by a very distant relative who is barely and not really legally related to them they struggle to outwit and solve the mysteries around them. Do they live or do they die? Find out when you read the book!

It was a good book for a younger reader because of the way it explains and gives definitions to words. It is easier for a younger child to read. The mystery in the book was very intriging.

I cant wait to see what they do with the movie, the book really was good.
