The first book in the Anita Blake series is a promising start. Anita blake, our kick ass heroine, is a necromancer, a person who has the ability to raise the dead, and animator who has a liscence to kill vampires. Living in a time when vampires, werewolves, zombies ect. roam free she despises the creatures and helps the police in supernatural investigations. In Guilty Pleasures Anita becomes embroiled in an investigation into some local vampire murders. In the process of the investigation she winds up battling a thousand-year-old vampire who is the powerful the master of the city. She also becomes unwillingly involved with the handsome vampire Jean-Claude, who she tries to resist, but doesn;t know how long she can last.
This book has it's suspensful points and the characters are well built and interaction is realistic yet the plot can drag at times and i found myself skipping pages to get to the 'good bits'. Yet this is a very promising start and I will definitely be reading the next in the series.
