What I Liked: There’s nothing quite like starting a book with an elephant stampede through an expensive tourist attraction to get a reader hooked right from the beginning. Teddy was on site when someone took a shot at Rhonda the Rhino inside her enclosure. The good news is she is fine. The scary news is it was likely an employee and now Teddy is determined to protect her before her pregnancy is endangered.
Facts about poaching and why Rhinos are so endangered and the repeated message of the myths surrounding the horn’s medicinal uses will educate Middle-Grade readers about this serious problem while presenting a very entertaining story as Teddy sleuths his way to the culprits.
Amid the challenges of solving the mystery, Teddy is still being harassed by Marge who is convinced he is behind a string of break-ins to sweet shops around the park. She thinks he is capable of stealing pounds of ice cream and candy despite not being able to find a trace.
Mixed in with the troubles at Funjungle he has settled into being one of the more popular kids at middle school. He even has the attention of the head cheerleader and the extremely rich and famous Summer McCracken. Things change to a little bit more than friendship after he saves Summer from ending up in the crocodile exhibit and earns a kiss much to his surprise.
Final Verdict: This was an entertaining addition to the series. I appreciated the facts about the real danger to Rhinos mixed in among the story. There are always a couple of really great action scenes filled with hilarity that make this a series that we keep coming back for more.
