What worked: This is a satisfying conclusion to City of Ghosts series. Engaging characters, fast-paced plot, and spooky magic woven throughout.
Cassidy Blake is an in-betweener( someone who can cross the Veil and help confused ghosts cross over). Jacob is her best friend, who just happens to be dead. And her parents are Paranormal Inspectors with their own TV series that goes to haunted places around the world. I love Cassidy's character. She's curious, not scared to solve a paranormal mystery, and isn't afraid of ghosts she encounters. She takes chances and wants to help those who wander on the other side of the Veil.
There's fast-paced action set in New Orleans, one of the spookiest places in the United States. I loved all the backstories of the haunts that Cassidy's parents take her to. Plus, her gift of being an in-betweener is fascinating.
In this story Cassidy finds an antagonist that is out to get her. A mystery messenger of Death, who crashes a seance with a chilling messenge. A messenge that drives Cassidy to get help from her friend Lara and also to contact the elusive Society-a group of both dead and living people who help with things through the Veil.
The only thing that kind of bugged me is how oblivious her so-called Paranormal Inspecter parents are to her ability, though I kind of think her Mother does have a clue.
I really love this middle-grade paranormal series which started in Scotland, landed in Paris, and now ends in New Orleans. Readers once again follow Cassidy, Jacob, and Lara into trying to not get in the path of the very creepy Messenger of Death.
Chilling, spooky mystery set in the haunted city of New Orleans. Only now Cassidy has to avoid being taken by a messenger of Death itself. Sure to please fans of a good, engaging paranormal series.
