Every year, a hand-selected group of young women travel to Paris to make their debuts into high society at La Danse des Débutantes, the most exclusive debutante ball in the world. Being wealthy, royal, or famous gets you into the pool of potential debutantes, but only La Danse decides who is truly worthy of attending.

Chapin Buckingham, the daughter of two Hollywood legends, is one of the lucky few chosen to attend. Chapin’s not usually a society girl, but she has her reasons for wanting to be crowned Debutante of the Year. Her chances seem good…until a fellow debutante creates a PR nightmare that has the eat-the-rich cohort calling for La Danse’s cancellation.

Enter Piper Woo Collins. As the daughter of an EMT and winner of the International Science Fair Prize with a profile in Teen Vogue, Piper is the perfect, down-to-earth person who could restore La Danse’s reputation. But Piper isn’t interested in becoming a debutante—until they offer her a college scholarship…if she wins Debutante of the Year.

In competition for the crown, Piper and Chapin have every reason to clash. But at La Danse, everyone wants something. Piper and Chapin might just need each other to go from pawns in a game to ruling the board…

It's a dream come true to be nominated to make your debut into high society at the prestigious La Danse de Debutantes. It also helps to be wealthy, royal, or famous to get the invite. Only La Danse decides who is invited. Chapin Buckingham, the daughter of Hollywood elite and a rock star, doesn't want to attend but feels it's a good way to connect with her mother. Piper Woo Collins, an upcoming STEM star and a profile in Teen Vogue, is surprised when she's invited after the scandalous drop of one of the debutantes. Piper and Chapin are thrust together in a race for the crown. Both find that everyone has something they want.

What worked: American Royals meets Emily in Paris with humor, style, and competition for a prestigious crown. There's intrigue, Paris, royalty, celebs, and did I mention Paris? The scenes in the city are lavish, and readers will be transported to the lives of the rich and famous.

Piper is a smart science girl who discovers that the scholarship to her dream college has been withdrawn when a wealthy donor withdraws his donations. With her best friend Seb's encouragement, she agrees to a phone call that will change her life.

Chapin is the daughter of famous Hollywood and rock star parents. At first, her interaction with Piper is cold and distant. Slowly, she warms up to Piper. But those around her don't make it easy. Add to that all the drama of having girls who are used to wealth, privilege, and getting whatever they want. There's sure to be some backstabbing and drama.

There's mystery and lots of references to upscale designers. Add some romance into the mix, which makes this novel perfect for those who want an escape.

Two unlikely girls compete for a prestigious crown in a fun and escapist romp through Paris. A perfect beach read!

This book was just alright. It was pretty cliche and not anything amazing. If you’re looking for an easy read, go for this.
