In this seventh installment in the New York Times bestselling series from Edgar Award winner James Ponti, the young group of spies work to prevent a dangerous criminal from escaping prison in another international adventure perfect for fans of Spy School and Charlie Thorne.

The City Spies are ready to start fresh with a new home, new schools, and a new directive now that Clementine has come in from the cold and Le Fantôme has been put behind bars. But their plans are put into jeopardy when Umbra threatens to attack multiple high-level targets across Europe unless he is released from prison. With intel leading them to Rome, Paris, London, and Amsterdam, the City Spies split up and race across the continent solving codes and chasing clues in an effort to thwart the attacks. With so many moving parts, the City Spies are going to have pull out all the stops if they have any chance to succeed at this latest mission.

Europa proves the City Spies series is still going strong with more stories to tell. This 7th book in the series sees our team face so many difficult puzzles and codes, and it takes all their unique talents to thwart the bad guys before multiple bombs go off in multiple cities. Tru takes a bigger role in shaping their spy education as each recommits to training in MI6 with a possible new addition at the end.
This series does a great job of giving facts integrated into the story about the geography and history, but this book takes it a step further with a deep dive into important artists in history. Combining action, detective work, and learning makes for an excellent Middle-Grade book. I like that the characters are capable and intelligent, but do not just know all the answers. Research plays a huge role in their success, and their willingness to divvy up the load and share what they have learned is a level of cooperation every school project could aspire to.
Technically, my reading companion has aged out of Middle-Grade books, but will still happily read this series and enjoy it. Overall, this addition to the series was entertaining and educational, just the right combo that we have come to expect as fans of the books.

The City Spies are back, and the adrenaline is off the charts! This time, they’re racing across Rome, Paris, and London to stop a prison break. It’s fast, smart, and filled with the kind of clever coding and teamwork that James Ponti nails every single time. It’s basically Mission Impossible, but with way cooler kids.
