Through dual narratives, readers meet seventeen-year-olds Maud and Jeff before the two meet each other. The year is 1969, and Maud is dealing with the death of her older sister, who killed herself during a war protest bombing; meanwhile, Jeffs older brother, a Marine, has just been killed in action. The two teenagers, both trying to make sense of their losses, happen to meet during an activist demonstration. As they begin to fall in love, they must learn to deal not only with their own complex feelings, but also with the complexities of the world around them. Their ultimate decisions regarding their love and the war are unique to this era and highlight the couples courage to stand up forand hold ontowhat they believe in.

A love story that deals with issues of politics and conscience, Come in from the Cold is particularly compelling to read in todays political climate.
