There was something behind the flute and the singing, a rhythm, a regular rhythm, it fitted with the music like a drum but it wasn't a drum.... It was ghosts dancing. Ghost guests at one of Sir Simeon Lingwall's evil parties, unaware of the fate that lay in wait for them. Fearfully she looked around the room, but no one else seemed to hear it. The musicians started a new tune with a faster rhythm, and Rayne, cold with fear, heard that the feet had started up again too, in time with the beat. They were responding to the music. They were here. Back cover of 'Consumed'

This sequel picks up where the first book left off. Rayne is still living and working at Morton's Keeps. However, she finds herself having nightmares about St John. She also feels a close connection with Ethan, but does he feel the same connection? It seems as though Ethan and Rayne are really hitting it off and Rayne is hoping to make it more than just a friendship. But with a new house manager, Miss Skeleton, and other new people all around the Manor, Rayne finds herself more busy than before. Miss Skeleton has set up more dinner parties and is playing into the "darkness" of the Manor. It doesn't take long before Rayne starts to realize something isn't right with the Manor again. But who is causing the disruptions?

Mrs. Cann does a great job with this sequel. I have to be honest, I was a bit afraid of this book just being a repeat of the first book, but it wasn't. This was a book on it's own and would stand alone if it needed to. Like I mentioned in my review of the first book, I think Rayne is both strong and brave. Even when she is scared, she presses on and she stands up for herself. I was extremely excited to learn more about Ethan, and let me tell you he is in this book more. So, if you loved Ethan from the first book, you will love this book! If you enjoyed 'Possessed' then you should pick this book up right away! You will love it as well!
