If you enjoy exposing your students to poetry and youre into counting, be sure to add author J. Patrick Lewis happy book, Countdown to Summer:  A Poem For Every Day of the School Year, to your classroom library.

Countdown to Summer has 180 cute, quirky, laugh-out-loud rhymes, riddles, haikus, shape-poems and the like to fit every taste.  Theres Old Queen Cole (Lewis answer to Old King Cole); there are poems to eBay and to calendars and to Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog that predicts whether well have an early spring.  Theres even an ode to the old woman who lives in a sneaker (who is, I suspect, first-cousin to the old woman who lived in a shoe).

Due to make its hardcover debut in July, 2009, Countdown to Summer pairs Lewis kid-inspiring poetry with the hilarious sketches of illustrator Ethan Long.  Its definitely a winning combination.

So start your own count down from now until July, then grab one of these hilarious books before theyre all gone.
