There's the ice princess witch, the love-all beast tamer, the goofy tech-nerd, the healing golden boy, and of course, the soul sucking dark prince vampire. What's not to love?
You have them all come together with all their contrasting personalities and somehow they all just seem to work, though they may not see it that way.
The ice princess witch Kaitlyn was ostracized by her town for being able to see visions of the future, all of them bad, without her being able to stop them from happening. So of course when she's offered a place at Zetes Institute to learn to control her visions she goes.
There she meets Anna, Lewis, Rob, and of course Gabriel. After a vision Rob and Kaitlyn look in a hidden room at the Zetes Institute where they're almost caught by Zetes, the man himself. In order to keep them from getting caught Gabriel unwillingly connects the five of them in a psychic bond, which they discover is unbreakable unless one of them dies.
On the run from Zetes they go on a journey looking for the people seen in a vision of Kaitlyn's who they believe can help them.
The interactions between Kaitlyn, the headstrong ice witch, and Gabriel, the stubborn antisocial dark soul sucker vamp., are the best parts of the books, I believe.
From finding friends and starting to melt, to learning to love, to actually falling in love with Rob, all the way to trusting Gabriel, being betrayed by him, hating him, and ultimately falling in love with him, it's a wild, thrilling adventure of love, hate , and bonds formed.

This book was extraordinary! The writing was fantastic. I was completely draw in since page one. The book kept me thoroughly entertained and it was a story that hadnt been told before. The author was very original. She created different yet easy-to-relate-to characters. I especially liked Kaits inner struggle between the love of two boys. Books with such a theme have begun to sprout lately but they tend to make the characters decision very obvious. Until it was said I had no idea who Kait would choose and I was content with her decision. Overall I loved this book! Ill definitely pick up more of L.J. Smiths books in the future.

This trilogy  is about a girl named Kaitlyn Fairchild  who is an outsider at her school because her drawings and her haunting witch like eyes. One day she was called to office and was invited to  go to the institute for people  with the same abilities as her. This was where it all started.Kait is attacked by a man who says she needs to learn. And the housekeeper Marisol also says the same thing, after which she has a seizure and goes into a coma. After which she and Rob inspect a room that is usually locked. They find a file that says Project Black Lightning with terminated printed on it, leading the two to believe the first psychics Marisol mentioned are dead . When Gabriel warns them of Joyce coming, he inadvertently creates a psychic bond between the five, and the only way to break is for one of them to die. Is the institute bad or good? that is the question.Fans of the night world won't be dissapointed. It an adventure that will arouse readers with curiousity overall a good read!
