Kerri sometimes has visions of the past, but her psychic abilities are a gift that seem to cause more trouble than they are worth. When her father died, his fellow police officers ruled his death as a suicide. Kerri knows that her father would never commit suicide, but nobody will take her visions of his murder seriously. Now Kerri knows better. She just needs to keep her visions to herself; nobody will believe her without solid proof.

One night Kerri is at a party with her best friend Seth. The party is at a local teen hotspot, an area by the woods, where it is easy to ignore drinking laws. When Kerri has to go to the bathroom in the woods, she stumbles upon the body of a dead man, Mark Travers. Her visions tell her that he was murdered, and she feels compelled to help solve the mystery of his death. It turns out that the victim was growing marijuana on his property, and her friend Seth might be involved in his murder!

Kerri is determined to get to the bottom of this case, no matter what the cost. But the truth she discovers about Marks death and how it is connected to her own fathers death will shock the whole town. Underneath the petty drug issues, there is a much more serious human trafficking ring run by some of the most prominent members of her community.

Death at Deacon Pond, by E. M. Alexander, is a fast-paced mystery that incorporates elements of the supernatural smoothly into the plot. Kerri is a strong heroine, her courage and determination are admirable and she always has the best of intentions. She handles her family life and the situation of her fathers death with a lot of poise. Some aspects of the plot are a little unrealistic, such as the details involving the human trafficking ring in her small town. But E. M. Alexander does a great job of building suspense, and you never know what is coming next!

If you are interested in teen girls with psychic abilities, but are looking for a serious alternative to Thats So Raven, then Death at Deacon Pond is your best bet!
