This book is the first of the Dragonriders of Pern books. It is the story of Lessa who's family was killed by a man named Fax when she was only 11. Ten turns (a Pernese year) later Lessa lies to Fax to get F'lar to kill him.

The Dragonriders are having problems of thier own because the dragons are low in number. The only queen left is near death, but she has layed a queen egg. F'lar know the evil legand of Thread will come back very soon and that the Weyr needs a strong Weyrwomen this time and Lessa is the answer. F'lar takes Lessa back to his home, Benden Weyr, to have her attemp to Impress the baby dragon queen and get Pern the dragons it needs!

I think this is the best book I have ever read. My friend got me started on the books and I finished all sixteen in less then three months.
Even after I have read all of them Dragonflight still is my favorite. I'd recomend this book to anyone it's technically science fiction but it seems totally fantasy til the six book. I didn't really like fantasy books til I found Pern and I think now I've been reading fantasy ever since. You really have to read this book I know you'll like it.
