I have to give credit whe credit is due. My male students kept telling me to read the first book in the series once it arrived in the media center. Although I was hesitant, they were right! I loved the first book so much that I had to run to the store to pick up Dust and Decay before I was even finished with the first. I don't want to give too much away for anyone who hasn't read the first book in the series. But boy does this book pack a punch!

It has action, suspense, and most of all a big dose of humanity. This is not your typical killer zombie story. Each character has to deal with big questions; Is there anything worth saving? Who are the true monsters, the zombies or us? What or who should we truly fear? The entire story line kept me on th edge of my seat. Tom is the strong older brother that holds secrets from his past that he must amend. Benny is young still struggling to discover what is right and just. Nix wants more to her life than just playing it safe. She wants to find out how to live life to its fullest.

Dust and Decay does not dissapoint. I felt more connected with the characters as Maberry delves deeper into the characters inner most fears and desires. You feel their anguish and the inner conflict they face while trying to survive. The true question continues, who should they really fear?

For zombie fans, this series is a must read. For anyone who feels a little hesistant about the whole zombi genre, I advise you give this series a shot. I recommended the series to a few of my coworkers and a few of my students and all of them we hooked. One even admitted, " I can't wait for the next book. I miss Benny Imura already." I completely agree!
