Escape Room by Christopher Edge was a really fun book for me to read, especially because of the reason I picked it up. I actually read this book to my nieces before taking them to their very first real escape room. I thought it would help build some excitement and suspense about solving puzzles and working together, and it ended up being the perfect story for that.
The book follows a girl named Ami who signs up for what she believes will be a normal escape room challenge. When she arrives, she meets a group of other kids who are also there to play. At first, it seems like a typical puzzle game, but things quickly start to feel strange and much more serious than anyone expected. The challenges become more dangerous, and the group realizes they are not just playing for fun anymore. They have to work together and think carefully if they want to survive what is happening.
I really liked Ami as the main character. She is smart, observant, and quick at solving problems, which makes her a great person to follow through the story. The other kids also have their own personalities and strengths, so it never feels like only one character is important. Watching them slowly learn to trust each other while figuring out the puzzles was one of the best parts of the book.
Even though the story is exciting and full of action, it also has some deeper ideas about teamwork, science, and thinking carefully about the choices people make. There were also several twists that kept the story interesting. By the end, it left me thinking more than I expected from what first looked like a simple adventure book. It was a really fun and thoughtful read, and it definitely helped get my nieces excited about trying an escape room themselves.
