Evermore begins when teenaged
Ever moves to Southern California after the terrible car accident that
claimed the lives of her parents, younger sister, and even her dog.
Being the only survivor of the crash, Ever not only has to cope with
the difficulties of being left without a family, but also with her new
unwanted ability: to hear the thoughts of those around her. Ever is
successfully managing to tune out the world (via oversized hoodies and
a blaring iPod), when a new boy, Damen, arrives in town, and Ever finds
herself unable to read his thoughts (sound familiar?). Along with a
whole slew of unanswered questions, Damen brings with him a new
dangerone thats got Ever in its sights.

While
the main character, Ever, does have some redeeming qualities, overall
she tends to be somewhat bland and self-absorbed. The character of
Damen, on the other hand, is altogether annoying, and lacks development
or depth at all.

I started reading
this book with high expectations, however, I found myself surprised by
the overall lack of creativity. While author Alyson Noel does have a
way with words, and manages some rather good description and imagery
throughout the book, the character development and originality of plot
are simply not there. Not to mention the too-obvious parallels to the
ever-popular teen-adored Twilight series.

While
this book might thrill tweens looking for another fantasy romance,
anyone who is looking for something deeper will most likely find Evermore to be lacking in depth and development.
