Ferren and the Doomsday Mission (The Ferren Trilogy)

Ferren and the Doomsday Mission picks up shortly after book 1. It begins with Ferren and Mirial going to different encampments trying to bring the rest of the Risduals together to finally stand up to the Humen. This book was a lot more fast paced than the first one, which I enjoyed. Book 1, Ferren and the Angel, was a build up of the world and how it works. Since that was established, Harland was able to explore the story at a deeper level. And it works. While I thought the first book had a unique premise, book 2 builds on that even more. I flew through this book devouring every scene.

I know in my first review, I mentioned how the writing seemed almost unremarkable but I think this book had more of a voice to it. The characters were more fleshed out and I had a better understanding of the surrounding. Also, since I knew what to expect from Harland in terms of his writing style - it was easier for me to digest.

With the introduction of more characters, the story moved along faster because there were full conversations, planning and plotting. The stakes were higher and there were more detail to the scenes. The last mission in the book is intense and I could not put it down. I'm just glad I don't have to wait for book three and I can dive in immediately.

Overall, Ferren and the Doomsday Mission by Richard Harland was an amazing expansion from the first book. While the first book sets the story, the second book establishes the stakes. I was captivated by this book because the plot continuously moved and I felt like I couldn't stop reading. I really enjoyed the extra characters while growing Ferren and Mirial personalities. If you enjoyed the first book, you'll love the second one. I would absolutely recommend continuing this series because there is so much more to the story.
