Mattie Cook is convinced that nothing exciting could ever possibly happen to her. But her mind changes drastically when the a yellow fever epidemic hits her hometown. As people flee for the countryside all around her (including Matties mother), all Mattie can do is wonder: will she live long enough to see her family reunited?

An engaging historical read, this book is something you dont want to miss, especially if you enjoy historical fiction. I didnt even know about this epidemic until I read this book, and it killed nearly 10% of Philadelphias population! It is very well researched too, which makes it even funner to read. Dont pass this one up!

this book changed my opinion about historical fiction, honest. told for a first person point of view (Mattie), so the story appeared so real. i could imagine how bad philadelphia was during the outbreak and couldn't help feeling sorry for mattie's struggle to survive.sweet, sad and definitely entertaining.

Fever 1793 is about a young girl named Mattie who's mother gets ill from yellow fever. She and her grandpa get seperated when she falls ill after her mother leaves to go stay with some relatives. She and her grandfather are eventually reunited when he finds her in a hospital and they return to their home in their old town. Her grandfather gets killed while trying to protect her from burglars and young Mattie has nowhere to go. That is until she finds a maid who used to help in the coffee shop her family owned. Mattie helps the maid, Eliza with her young children until the fever epidemic is over and her other returns from the country.
