Catherine Clark is an excellent writer who can weave a story brilliantly. She knows how to tie in many different situations to make an ending or climax that is truly incredible. Most recently, Clark has composed Frozen Rodeo.

Peggy Fleming Farrell (named after the ice skater by her ice-skating obsessed father) is having what she believes is the worst summer of her life. She's signed up for French classes (to allow her an early high school graduation so she can travel) which the teacher, Monsieur Le Fleur, never attends because of sickness and family difficulties. Also, Fleming's (as she is often called) best friend is away at camp. Plus, she is working at the Gas'N'Git coffee shop, Express-Oh-Yes! with a guy who thinks he is Bono because she owes her parents money for destroying the car. Now, her dad wants her to skate in his ice-skating show when she doesn't even ice-skate anymore!

Read a novel that is reminiscent of The Princess Diaries Volume 3: Princess in Love by Meg Cabot and Catherine Clark's Truth or Dairy. Just as in Princess in Love, the identity of the convenience store criminal is right in front of you, as the identity of the JoCrox was in Mia's story. I won't tell you who it is because it would ruin the surprise, but you'll understand what I mean when you read Frozen Rodeo.

Frozen Rodeo is a small-town edge type of story that I think you will really enjoy. I wasn't difficult to read, but it had some twists that you wouldn't see coming. I enjoyed hearing about the "plastic" IHOP waitress and Steve when Peggy sees them with her new French class friend, Charlotte Duncan. I felt sorry for Peggy, but laughed at Steve for being such a jerk and an air-head. This is another similarity with The Princess Diaries. You hear such strange things!

I suggest reading this book at ages 12 and up. Frozen Rodeo receives 5 stars for class, fashionable reading material for girls, and fun! If you enjoy Frozen Rodeo, I recommend Catherine Clark's other writings, All-American Girl by Meg Cabot, as well as Meg Cabot's The Princess Diaries series.
