What I loved: The diversity of the characters in the Kingdom beyond novels makes for a refreshing middle-grade series. Bengali Folktales are incorporated into the book as rhymes and riddles that, in the end, help Kieran complete the tasks laid out before her. I like these books as an addition to children's libraries as it opens doors to cultures that are not very prominent in traditional classic tales. Discussions about the world beyond our small towns are a must for children to know the world is so much bigger and full of exciting and wondrous creatures and tales.
What Left Me Wanting More: Reality tv is a very prominent trend in today's world and to catch the eye of today's readers, incorporating game shows into books is a great way to hook readers. The title of the reality game show is hilarious in its own right "Who Wants to Be a Demon Slayer?" The mixture of pop culture and Bengali fairy tales makes for a unique book. I would like to see a more detailed text that gives us the original stories for the series, sort of a handbook of tales.
Final Verdict: Reality game show mixed with American pop culture and Bengali fairy tales, Game of Stars is the sequel that brings out the corny riddles and impossible quests to the max. If you like quirky characters, impossible tasks, and alternate dimensions, then pick up this series.
