Gilda Joyce....Psychic Investigator
User reviews
My age group doesn't belong in the children's book section, but this is one series I keep following to find more about. The main heroine is a 13 year old girl who lives a typical life, as alike to many of us. She owns a typewriter that her father gave to her, before his death. Gilda is a mystery solver, but she is more into psychic investigations. She has really cool disguises which she constantly uses. Basically she's your definition of a trouble-maker that you can't help but love. This book is the first in the Gilda Joyce mystery series. Try it, you won't want to put it down.
Gilda Joyce Psychic Investigator is not my usual choice of book but I am glad I decided to try something new because I really enjoyed reading it! Jennifer Allison did an extraordinary job when writing this book and I hope to read more of her writing in the future. This mystery book is fun, humorous and very intriguing.
This book is about a young girl named Gilda who has a passion for writing and hopes to flourish in her career as a Psychic Investigator. When she tells her whole eighth-grade class that she is going to San Francisco this summer and becomes completely determined to not make this statement a lie, she contacts her mother's cousin, Lester Splinter whom her mother hasn't seen in years, requesting an invitation to go stay with him and his daughter.
Gilda had almost lost all hope when she finally receives a letter back from Mr. Splinter saying that he would love for her to come and stay with them. Gilda was absolutely delighted and when she was granted permission from her mother, flew off to California. When she gets to the Splinter's huge mansion she discovers the mystery of Mr. Splinter's sister who jumped from a window and figures that she is going to be the one to solve it.
Gilda and Juliet, Mr. Splinter's daughter, attempt to solve the mystery together and must fight through their differences, keep secret's from Juliet's father and hopefully not get caught. Will Gilda and Juliet discover what happened to Aunt Melanie and why she appears to be haunting Juliet or will their discoveries only end up getting them into a heap of trouble?
This book is really great and I hope that you will read it and enjoy it as well. I will warn you though this book does include some pretty freaky ghost encounters and a lot of other unexplainable incidents do occur, so if you don't like that kind of stuff I wouldn't read it but if you do you will absolutely love reading this book!
First off, I love the character Gilda Joyce! She is goign through a lot having recently lost her father, so there's a sadness to her, but I love her feisty, kid-like attitude of anything is poosible. I also love her way of not caring what others think and her tendency to take thigns too far...even though it made me cringe a few times. Gilda's best friend is leaving for camp and Gilda is determined to have an adeventure of her own, so she writes her mother's cousin to see if she can stay with him...only she's not exactly honest in the
letter.
She does get invited to stay, although she basically invited herself, and finds she has a cousin living htere about her own age. However, Gilda's main reason for wanting to visit is to solve the mystery of what happened to the sister of the man who owns the gothis looking house with the tower. The sister supposedly killed herself, but Gilda's sure there's more to the story than that.
In the end she and her cousin become closer and she heals the rift between the girl and her dad. She doesn't solve the mystery as much as she brings it to life in a funny and warm way.
