Suddenly, Ren doesn’t seem like himself after a night at the club and a trip through the forest. Colin isn’t too sure about what happened that night, but Ren seems to be distancing himself, and now there’s a new guy in his life. Colin is sure that he can rescue his best friend from this love and enlists the help of a medium and two others whom he never thought he’d ask for help.


What I Liked: This book spends a lot of time introducing you to Colin and Ren while exploring their friendship and past. Due to how much time you spend getting to know Colin, you are invested once the action begins to happen, and you need Ren to make it out alive. The friendship throughout this book is well done and highlights the way that love shows through other relationships, not just romantic relationships.


This book does a great job of including both the horror from the haunting and possession, but also the horror of being a queer teenager and not having the love you deserve from those around you. The relationship that Colin and Ren have with their parents is highlighted throughout this book and showcases just why Ren felt the need to find love elsewhere and how dangerous that became for him. It was heartbreaking yet realistic to read as Ren was constantly rejected by his peers and family, driving him to seek solace elsewhere.


The last 50 pages of this book will have you on the edge of your seat as you work to figure out if Ren is going to be rescued. Then you’ll experience a roller coaster of emotions as you want to throw this book and then retrieve it for a hug. The closing of this book wraps up this story beautifully and highlights the love that is shared between friends.


Final Verdict: He’s so Possessed with me is a thrilling book that captures the desperation behind queer friendships and the transition from high school into adulthood. This book is perfect for fans of Ryan La Sala, Andrew Joseph White, and horror movies about possession. Young adults will enjoy seeing how Colin and Ren navigate their friendship and how they learn about themselves and learn to embrace themselves, even if others around them won’t.
