House of Night: Betrayed

After reading Marked, possibly the most addictive book I have ever read, I was all to anxious to pick up the next installment in theHouse of Night series, Betrayed. And I have to say that my views on the series haven't really changed all that much.

The plot was missing for me. It took 300+ pages for 3 basic things to happen. I felt that the storyline could have been executed so much better than it was. I felt very bogged down by all the angst that I didn't feel was needed for the book.

The characters continued to be what they were in the the first book. Some characters, mostly the antagonists, developed and changed. But the main characters, the ones I had the most problems with, stayed the same. Zoey's side comments continued to annoy me, even though there was less of them.

The writing in these books is definitely not my favorite I have ever read. But it is easy to read, which is always nice.

I was thinking I was going to give this book a not-as-good rating, but the last 40 pages or so wouldn't let me stop reading them because of all the action, the characters turning evil, and the mystery.

This continues to be a one of the most addicting series I have ever read and I can't wait to read more of the Casts' works, starting with the next book in the series, Chosen.

In this one I must say Zoey's hormones were raging. She's with this guy but she still has love for this other guy, while seriously flirting with someone she can't have. This book showed a very bitchy side of Zoey and I LOVED it! Zoey is not to be played with apparently since she's no regular fledgling and I can't wait to see what happens next.

if you liked the first book then this book will make you rethink that. it was mindblowing and intense at the same time. it takes from the feel good times in high school to the scary truth about life, love and lust. i have to give props to the authors. it was reallly engaging and always managed to keep you in the dark til the very end. loved this one. can't wait for the next.

When I started to read Betrayed I expected a lot of things to happen just like in Marked, but Betrayed took me on an even wilder ride. I was constantly at the edge of my seat wondering what Zoey's original mind would come up with for the solution to the next problem that would arise. Of course Zoey also got more annoying continuing with her not cussing and using words like "poo" It just makes her sound more childish. The rest of the characters don't really annoy me. I really like Damien. He's pretty cute and is pretty much Zoey's only male friend she isn't attracted to. I definately wasn't disapointed while reading Betrayed. I actually cried once or twice, and yelled out some not so pleasant angry words because I wasn't liking what was happening. But I prefer when this happens because any book that can get me so engrossed in it that I scream must be pretty awesome and Betrayed was.

The second novel in the House of Night series, Betrayed by P.C. Cast and Kirsten Cast picks up right where the first one leaves off. Not only is Zoey balancing two Sociology classes (because of her unusual circumstances), she has to figure out how to reform the Dark Daughters society. As their leader, and High Priestess in training, it is her duty. Through all this, though, she has to deal with another emotional pang: her now boyfriend, gorgeous Erik Night, is gone to London for a monologue contest. While doing research on her new ideas for the Dark Daughters, she realizes something else, too: she is attracted to the part time Poet teacher Loren. Something here at the school is not right, however. Her principal is telling Aphrodite, Zoeys least favorite person, that the Goddess Nyx has become displeased with Aphrodite and has taken away her visions. Aphrodite knows that Nyx is wrong. She knows something bad is happening to the students, both human and fledglings. And, it is up to Zoey to save her almost-ex boyfriend from being killed. While having to deal with all of this, Zoey finds out that her friends each have affinities for specific elements. However, shortly after receiving her gift from the Goddess, Zoeys friend Stevie Rae dies& her body rejects the change. Everything is topsy-turvy her best friend dead, her tentative friendship with her former enemy, and a betrayal she did not see coming.
Betrayed was just amazing! I had to get my hands on this book immediately after finishing the first novel in the House of Night series, Marked. I just can not wait until I can read the next one, Chosen.

Betrayed is the second book in the House of Night series, following Marked. I liked Betrayed more than I liked Marked. I think some of it had to do with Marked having to introduce the characters and establish relationships. Betrayed had so much more of a story, I was sucked right in!


Zoey Redbird is a fledgling vampyre. She attends the House of Night school, which is really a finishing school for vampyres. She is now the leader of the Dark Daughters, if you read the first book, you will understand how that all happened. She has four friends that are inseparable. Stevie Rae is her roommate and her best friend. Then there are the "twins" Shaunee and Erin, and Damien.


In Betrayed Zoey is finally becoming comfortable with her new life of being a vampyre. She has four awesome friends, and she even has a boyfriend. Eric Night, who of course is the hottest guy at House of Night. Her nemesis Aphrodite is no longer a problem now that Zoey and her mentor Neferet have put her in her place.


Things dont stay so simple for long. The news reports a missing teenager, which happens to be someone that Zoey knows from her old school. After the reports that two teenagers have died, two teenagers that Zoey knew she cant help shake this bad feeling that continues to linger. Zoey sees where all the clues are leading too, but she cant seem to believe what she must. Then when her boyfriend Heath, well her human boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend, is taken Zoey has to overcome her hesitation and realize the betrayal and save Heaths life.


I was truly shocked at the ending of the book, and I was disappointed as well. There arent many people that Zoey can turn to and I hate that she had to lose more than one in this book. Also, the ending is a total cliffhanger!! I am so glad I have a copy of Chosen, the next book in the House of Night series, on the way! If you have read Marked and liked it, you will love Betrayed. Personally I liked Marked, but I just thought it was okay, Betrayed on the other hand blew it out of the water. I would definitely recommend reading it!
