When her mom dies of the bubonic plague and her brother marries, Cornelia van Rijn finds herself all alone in a small, cramped house, little money, and a stubborn and crazy father. Rembrandt van Rijn was once a revered painter and the favorite of all the Amsterdam elites. But, now the times have changed, and so have the painting styles. Rembrandt refuses to paint according to that style, which also means, few of his paintings are being sold. Amid the hardships, Cornelia is starting to develop a relationship with, Carel, the son of a wealthy family. But, then, there is Neel, her dad's last remaining art student. But when Cornelia discovers the truth to a long hidden secret, she must make a decision about her future...
Overall this book was really good and will recommend it to history buffs like me.
