A story about self-discovery, grief, and destiny that begs the question: How do you keep going when your world has stopped spinning?
When Sydney Michaels stops for breakfast in order to put off scholastic ruin a little longer, she never expected to―quite literally―bump into cute-boy stranger, Marcus Burke.
When Marcus invites her to have breakfast with him instead of going to class, she can’t ignore the urge to get to know him better―or the fact that this charming new acquaintance seems just as interested in her.
After a magical day together in their hometown of New York City, Sydney is finally willing to believe that maybe―just maybe―after years of loss and heartache, she’s finally reached the good part.
But when it comes time to say goodbye, as they linger in a crosswalk, something happens. An accident? Sydney isn’t sure―all she knows is that, after screeching tires, blinding headlights, and a moment of searing pain, she opens her eyes and is back in her bed. On September 24–the morning of her big exam―again.

“It’s You Every Time” by Charlene Thomas follows main characters Sydney and Marcus as they live through a Groundhog Day-type scenario, revisiting the same day over and over and over again, unsure how to “unstick” themselves from the repetition. However, through the process, they begin learning more about each other, and while they aren’t sure at first whether or not the other one knows what’s happening, they keep up the ruse as they don’t want to make themselves sound crazy by saying the same day is happening time and time again.

When Sydney first runs into Marcus when they’re grabbing their breakfast sandwiches, she is enamored of him and thinks that spending the day with him sounds intriguing. Spending their days together becomes the only thing they each start looking forward to as the days all mesh together and time seemingly stands still beyond the less than 24 hours they have with each other before it all falls away.

Their friendship eventually turns into something more, and they find solace in having each other to lean on as they cope with losses that they have both been holding in, causing them additional suffering since they haven’t had anyone to truly share their sorrows with on a larger scale. Being there for each other opens them up to possibilities, and the hope that they can eventually get out of their never-ending day.

“It’s You Every Time” touches on themes of love, loss, hope, depression, warmth, kindness, truth, and maybe most importantly, finding themselves in a world that has stopped moving for reasons they have to figure out in order to move forward.

This book is a heartfelt and emotional read that explores love, loss and the complexities of fate. After meeting and being stuck in a time loop Sydney and Marcus confront personal losses and their evolving relationship and their relationship and connection really is beautiful! It is a young adult novel but the author was able to capture the teenage emotions without all of the drama and I really enjoyed that! It's a great read that shows even when things are challenging , growth and healing are always possible!
