Game Changer for Reading

These Indestructibles books are a game-changer for families with babies and toddlers! The waterproof, tear-resistant format means I can actually relax when my one-year-old is “reading” independently, and that’s worth its weight in gold. We accidentally tested the indestructible claim by sending a book through the washing machine, which is how we learned that my daughter could open her hamper by herself! Fortunately this adorable Christmas book survived, emerging only a little bit wrinkled.
Merritt’s holiday-themed content is perfect for little ones – simple, repetitive text with bright, engaging illustrations. The rhythm and rhyme structure support early language development beautifully. My toddler loves the musical quality of the text and often “sings” along while turning pages.
From a developmental standpoint, this book hits all the right notes for very young readers. The high contrast illustrations are perfect for developing visual systems, the sturdy format encourages independent exploration, and the familiar holiday themes provide vocabulary building opportunities.
What I particularly appreciate is how this book acknowledges that babies and toddlers need books designed specifically for their developmental stage and handling abilities. Too often, board books are just simplified versions of picture books, but the Indestructibles series understands that very young children have unique needs and interests. For this reason, we have built quite a collection for our family library.
