Eilan, High Priestess of the Forest House, is dead, and her dear friend Caillean has taken her place. She is also fostering Eilan's son Gawen. Uncomfortable in the world of women in which he lives, Gawen finds his place with the help of two very unlikely people- Father Joseph of Arimathea, and the fairy queen herself.
I bought this book in a bookstore right after I read The Firebrand, but it sat untouched on my bookshelf for a time while I dug up a copy of The Mists of Avalon, which I wanted to read first. I enjoyed The Mists of Avalon, but I hoped that this book would be better because it told a story I did not all ready know, and I was not disappointed. This is a beautiful book in every sense of the word, but I loved the characters (namely Gawen and Caillean) best.
It is always nice to find a sequel that surpasses the original.
