I had the luck of buying this book and reading it on a cold, rainy day for the 1st day-the setting added to the great setting. In some ways, this is a cliched mystery, but in some ways that's not a bad thing. The setting, characters, and plot are all what you'd expect in a mystery novel-the huge manor, the cold, aloof, rich grandmother, the secrets no one in the family discusses, etc. But what's wrong with that? Sometimes it's just nice to sit back w/a good old-fashioned mystery.
Elizabeth Chandler doesn't break any new ground here with her story, but it is a satisfying mystery and she does an excellent job of flushin out the main character as well as describing the setting-both the house, restaurants, shops, etc., and the natural setting-weather, etc. I would highly recommend this book to mystery buffs, but if you're looking for a highly different type of mystery-this one may not be for you.
