The James sisters help with their family cafe in Caball Hollow. Each sister has a paranormal ability. Rowan has the gift of smelling a lie. She hopes to use this gift to find who is behind a series of thefts. Then she encounters a beaten, bloody Hadrian, who asks for her help. Rowan finds out that the urban legends might be real. Now, she just has to push aside the growing feelings she has towards Hadrian to find the truth.

What worked: Beautifully written companion to Bittersweet In The Hollow series set in the Appalachian mountains, complete with ancient magic and fairies. I loved the first book in this haunting, magical series. Pearsall has a gift of weaving in the gorgeous Appalachian mountains with a diverse world filled with spells and mystery.

I loved the sisters and how each has a unique gift. Rowan's gift of smelling a lie is intriguing, and the magic shown is subtle.

I didn't feel the chemistry between Hadrian and Rowan at first but this is really an enemies-to-lovers tale that starts slowly. Only in this case, Hadrian has a secret that even Rowan has a hard time deciphering.

Plus, readers will find out more about the exclusive Aunt that disappeared.

Haunting, thought-provoking fantasy with a teaser for book three!
