This novel details a girl's time with the man who has abducted her and held her since she was ten. She is the victim of abuse from this man, Ray, and if you dislike such touchy topics, this book is not for the feint-hearted.

Each word that is written on the page by the young narrator is powerful and moving and makes the reader want to head outside and find this place of "Shady Pines" and rescue her from this man who has harmed her beyond repair. The words bring across her despair and her complete feelings of loss. She believes that she will never be saved and that there is no way for her to escape since no one seems to notice.

In a book that brings up a powerful and important issue, Elizabeth Scott breaks the hearts of the readers. This book is not recommended for people who turn away from graphic ideas, no matter how vague, or children who aren't in high school because of the content, but was an overwhelming but short novel.
