Middle School and Other Disasters: Biggest Secret Ever is the latest installment in Wanda Coven's series that follows Heidi Heckleback and her friends while they attend Broomsfield Academy.
Heidi becomes friends with a new girl named Isabella and learns a huge secret about her past that she promises to keep. Things get complicated when Heidi's roommate stumbles upon the secret, forcing Heidi to resort to her (sometimes unreliable) magic. Ultimately, Heidi learns some lessons about magic and friendship that make for a very entertaining read.
What I Liked: Heidi is a very relatable character. Her emotional rollercoaster is authentic and entertaining, making her a character readers will instantly connect with. Like any good story there is some conflict and drama, but what sets this story apart is the little bits of magic sprinkled in. I love the use of illustrations and the bigger font sizes used. As a school librarian, I know how much this appeals to middle-grade readers, making the book accessible and engaging.
Biggest Secret Ever is a delightful middle-grade book filled with friendship and magic.
