To be sure, NEW MOON is not as romantic as TWILIGHT. But fans of TWILIGHT will not be disappointed.

Edward and the rest of the Cullens disappear right in the beginning of the book, after Bella almost loses her life in a birthday party accident. Heartbroken and shattered, Bella spends the next few months in a zombie-like haze... until she meets up again with Jacob Black, her Quileute Indian friend, who helps Bella put together a motorbike. With Jacob's warmth and friendship, Bella finally feels like she is coming out of her haze.

However, strange things have been occurring on the Quileute reservation. Nearly every teenage boy has suddenly joined Sam's clique, and pretty soon, Jacob does too. But it's not just any clique. All the young men are werewolves: huge, intimidating, and extremely hot to the touch. This influx of werewolves was brought about because Victoria, partner of the James who was killed in TWILIGHT, is seeking revenge on his death by going after Bella.

Meanwhile, Bella continues her reckless behavior in order to hear Edward's voice yelling at her in her head. One time, a cliff-jumping attempt nearly results in her death. Unfortunately, it was at this moment that Rosalie decided to check in on Forks. Believing Bella had died, Rosalie told Edward, who resolved to go to the Volturi in Italy and break a vampire law so that they would kill him. Alice and Bella must head to Italy to stop Edward and escape from the Volturi's clutches before it is too late.

NEW MOON is full of questions that will hopefully be answered in the succeeding books. The Cullens have basically promised the Volturi that Bella will be one of them one day... so when will that happen? Werewolves and vampires hate one another on principle, so how will Edward (the boyfriend) and Jacob (the best friend) be able to stand each other?
