New Moon (Twilight #2)

New Moon is the sequel to the bestseller "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. Of course this book may not have lived up to the expectations. It is not half as good as Twilight, but still an enjoyable read.

It follows Isabella "Bella" Swan. Her vampire boyfriend Edward and his family have to move away. For about 400 pages the book seems to drag and it only starts to pick up when Alice Cullen comes back.

In fairness, it is a very good book, but not quite as good as its predeccesor.

I look forward to Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

My sixth grade teacher told me about these books and at first I thought that it sounded out of "my usual reading category". Now that I'm a seventh grader I could read them over and over again. My entire school is reading this series. You rock Stephenie Meyer. Keep the books coming.

When I first saw the book Twilight, or even saw the cover, I didn't seem interested in it, even when I read the back details. Vampire romance? Who would want to read something that doesn't happen in your average ordinary life? LIke Sarah Dessen, I thought her books were very interesting. But, when I saw all my friends reading it, and talking about it, I grew curious, of what was in that book that makes everyone feel the way they are??? So, I gave up, and read it. When I did, I felt a new feeling in my heart, like I knew what true love really ment to real lovers. The parts that I didn't like, though, when in the second book, when he leaves Bella, it was sad, and in the same time, nonrealistic. I think Bella's reaction should have been bigger than what she did. When you lose a true love, it's almost impossible to love again, when your heart has a hole missing. I think Stephenie Meyer, has a beautiful imagination, and I myself, am trying to write a book about vampire romance, but I don't want it to look similar to Stephenie Meyer's. I hope she gets the Third book, and let it go out in stores in the summer, not in October. Again, both books changed my opinion in true love. But I wished for it to be a little more realistic... again nothing's perfect...

Well I can't admit that it was useless. I have read Twilight about 6 times since it came out and I waited anxiously for New Moon to come out. Edward made me swoon and in my mind he was the perfect handsome vampire. I had hoped for some more of his flitting glances towards Bella, his feather light touches. Unfortunately all I got was a few pages in the beginning and a conclusion that ended without a cliffhanger.

Once I started reading it, I realized that it was too dull. From the point at which Edward became distant with Bella, I started yawning. Bella just went on and on about her terrible life.

Finally once Jacob came in like a fresh breath of air, I could sit up and enjoy the book. But even then, Bella's disinterest with Jacob made me want to shake her to her senses. The enchanting Edward is gone! Try to fix your "heart with all the holes in it" by giving in to poor Jacob, at least! I sincerely liked Jacob. He was the new man in Bella's life. He was charming and as Bella said "beautiful in a way". Why couldn't she just suck it up and get on with it? He wasn't her brother! Was she blind to see how much Jacob was suffering because of her? I didn't mind as much that there were werewolves throughout the book, but I was hoping the vampires would come in soon. The 400 pages or so of Bella's miserable darkness made me want to stop reading the book.

The Volturi were confusing to read about. It seemed that they had been praised about before by Carlisle, and then suddenly they were an evil group of "bloodsuckers" that wanted to kill Edward. I couldn't understand all the secret connections and the hopefully "knowing" glances that kept shifting from one character to the other. Or maybe I was too tired to actually understand it.

I would have thought that once Edward came back into the scene, things would change. I've loved Edward since Twilight, but his reunion with Bella through till the end of the book felt strained. There was no raining of relieved kisses, only explanation after explanation of things that the audience already knew from before, and that made Bella seem even stupider than she came off as.

I was hoping that before Edward came back that something would have happened between Jacob and Bella, but nothing of the sort occured. Jacob was left ignored and Bella ran back to Edward despite his "misunderstandings".

All in all, the book was a disappointment but it held some moments that were thrilling to read. I had hoped for more romance in the book, but unfortunately, all I got was a lossely held plot that failed to be successful in keeping me interested. I was thoroughly relieved once I'd finished the book.

I eagerly await the third book, hoping with all my might that Bella will finally turn into a vampire. I don't think I could take any of her "human-ess" anymore.

After reading the exquisitely done novel "Twilight", I absolutely craved to know what happened next in the complicated lives of Bella Swan and her dangerous yet wonderful "boy"friend, Edward Cullen. Unfortunately, "New Moon" is only o.k., and hardly compares to "Twilight". I do, however, believe it had just as much an effect at the end as "Twilight" did, in the way that I can hardly wait until Fall 2007 for the 3rd novel, "Eclipse".

Anyway, the book begins where it left off in Twilight, following the ever progressing romance between Edward and Bella. Events change for the worse when a disastrous event on Bella's 18th birthday prompts the Cullen family to pack up and leave, leaving Bella heartbroken and empty. The story almost seems to pick up as Bella regains personality, with help from her new friend Jacob Black, who carries the weight of a secret as heavy as the Cullens'. Although the story seems to drag from the temporary loss of Edward's character, avid readers of this series will be oddly pleased when Bella begins to hear Edward's voice in her head whenever she is in impending danger. After Bella quite literally "takes a plunge" into danger, Bella's old friend, who is coincidently Edward's sister Alice Cullen, comes to town to find out if the rumor of Bella's death is true. Before Alice and Bella head to Spain to show Edward that Bella is walking and talking, he calls to speak to Bella's father saying he is his father, Carlisle, and Jacob Black accidentally tells him that he is at a funeral, leaving Edward to further believe that Bella is dead. Alice and Bella then jump a plane to Italy to prevent an Italian family from granting Edward his death wish, and if you haven't read "Twilight" (shame on you, read that first!), I won't spoil the reason of why that is the only way Edward can die.

I won't tell what happens at the end.

You'll have to find out what happens yourself!

Also, I recommend "Twilight" and "New Moon" to anyone romantic and just a tad twisted. :)
