I recently read, Night Hoops, by Carl Deuker. The main character, Nick, is a great basketball player and, as a sophomore, he makes the varsity team. Surprisingly, a troubled neighbor who is known as a bully also made the team. This athlete is Trent Dawson. After a slow start, Nick, as well as Trent, beat out the seniors for the starting positions. Soon, the two athletes become friends on the court and Trent becomes the teams best scorer, while Nick leads the team in assists. Together, they become the dynamic duo and the heart and soul of the team. After some unexpected events, the team has to band together to give it all theyve got in order to win the state championship.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. This novel draws the readers in by making the characters come to life. I found myself making a strong connection with the characters throughout the book. You find yourself cheering them on and hoping for Nick and Trent to succeed. In the end, they do succeed. The great ending tops off this wonderful story and gives you what you hoping to hear. In my opinion, this book was phenomenal, and I would recommend it to anyone, especially sports fans.
