Oathbound is the third book in the Legendborn Cycle, but not the conclusion I thought it would be to the series. Bree finds out that the King of the Demons is in disguise as Erebus, and he has the knowledge she needs to get in control of her powers. She enters an unholy alliance with him that includes a magical procedure that has her unable to remember anyone in her life, while everything else about her memories remains intact. She grudgingly must learn to work with his cambion wards, Elijah and Zoelle.

With Bree off getting stronger, the POV expands to include Will, Natasia Kane, Mariah, and Nick, so we see how the moving parts of the story are coming together. I liked these chapters where we finally see the story from their perspectives, which helps make them well-developed secondary characters.

My favorite part of the book is Bree’s time at Penumbra, where she has forced proximity to Nick and learns of their past and discovers she wants a future with him. Selwyn Kane is in bad shape as his demon side is dominant now, despite his mother’s attempts to stabilize him. There are many surprise revelations regarding him at the end.

Overall, this book did a fantastic job of developing the characters. Bree now has the knowledge needed to go up against the Demon King and the corrupt Legendborn Regents, which is sure to make for an explosive fourth book.
