loved this! It was fast paced and the hot and cold relationship between Daemon and Kat had me in love. Daemon is just wow! I don't usually swoon over book guys but Jennifer L Armentrout makes me every time! First Roth and now Daemon. I wish these guys existed! The writing is smooth and flows perfectly, the pacing is wonderful. Not a single dull moment in this whole book. The characters are believable, I could actually see them living around us.
I don't ever read books about aliens, I just don't like them. This hasn't changed my mind. I won't be looking for other books about aliens unless she writes them. I will most definitely continue this series. I would recommend it to anyone.

Obsidian was all about a girl named Katy Swartz and her adventure when she moves to West Virginia. This book is one of my favorites, and is currently in my top five. When Katy moves next door to one of the most annoying guys Katy will have to deal with *wink, wink* and his sister to whom Katy will become friends with (Much to the hunkey Daemon’s annoyance). The verbal dueling that Katy and Daemon participate in will have you rocking on the ground because you were laughing so hard. My favorite parts in the book was when they were having a verbal battle. Katy was the perfect heroine because she was a little insecure to make her believable, but strong enough to make me root for her throughout the series. Daemon was a character I fell in love with from the beginning. He was the perfect twist of dark and light that makes me want me to stab him part of the time and kiss him all the other times. I love everything about this book and the whole concept of this book was a brilliant idea, a clap for Armentrout for making the whole alien thing believable and not over doing it. Every twist and turn had me squealing with delight and shock. I loved all the characters and how the author presented them. Every one of them had so much depth and believability that I wouldn’t be surprised if they were real people. I also love the setting and the way the story was presented. This book deserves every star I gave it (5 of them), and the rest of the series is just as great and exciting. I can’t wait for the next book in the series as the last book *Opal* left me in a twist by the cliffhanger at the end. To those of you who like the fantasy type this is the perfect book for you!

I had heard marvelous things about the Lux series for some time now and had yet to allow myself to delve into their world. I was worried I would get too thoroughly enthralled in their world and would find myself unable to function normally, as some really good book series do. It turns out that I was right to be worried. “Obsidian” was, by far, one of the best books I have read this year.
Katy is a short, book blogger with a feisty attitude. Hmm, this sounds a little autobiographical. That being said, I connected instantly with Katy. She seemed to be the type of selfless heroine that was perfect for the story. She is a devoted friend and a morally upstanding representation of the human race. It is no wonder that our male protagonist would be curious about her. She came to West Virginia because her mother needed a change after the loss of Katy’s father. Katy herself was still wounded after her father’s passing, much as anyone would be. This painful back story may have been what caused Katy to be such a fighter in “Obsidian”. She was a delight to read.
Daemon was hard to like. Exactly how Katy felt about him was how I seemed to feel about him (seems I got sucked in so epically that I started feeling I was Katy). Sometimes I wanted to strangle him and other times he made me swoon. I only started to understand Daemon and the way he acted after I read some of the bonus material at the end of the book. Daemon is a very complex and brooding character. He is the direct opposite of Katy.
I have never been fond of books that show characters who instantly fall in love and start with the mushy talk early on in their relationships. Daemon and Katy’s relationship was fun to watch since it was a love-hate relationship from start to finish.
This book reminded me of the Roswell series that was on TV some time ago. I loved that show. “Obsidian” echoes Roswell in all the best ways. Running from an evil bent on destroying the good aliens and the humans they interact with, fighting developing emotions because interspecies dating is weird, and navigating teenage hormones and the social aspects of that age is what “Obsidian” is all about. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into “Onyx” and follow Katy and Daemon’s story as they attempt to overcome their insurmountable obstacles.

Daemon in the beginning annoyed the crap out of me but I love him now :)
Good Points
I bought Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout on my own, and this is my honest review.
Lets start with the reason why I decided to pick this book up. So many people in the blog world have read and reviewed Armentrout’s books and I literarily have not heard one ill word towards her work. So with that I grabbed Obsidian off of Amazon the second I had the chance, and it may or may not have sat on my shelf for awhile but the point is I read it and I have to say the hype about this is very accurate.
I love to read but something I love more, is finding new things while reading. Like Aliens! This is the first book I have ever read that had to do with Aliens, which is pretty cool. High school student Katy moves to West Virginia with her mother after her dad dies, and is forced to make friends she never thought though that these friends were not human. Makes you want to go grab the book right now doesn’t it? I encourage you to go do it!
The first thing I noticed about this book that I loved was that the main character Kat, is a book blogger just like me! I can’t even begin to explain how excited that made me, and then seeing posts that I do every week as a book blogger mentioned in this book, I couldn’t get enough of it! I thought it was a great tie into the book world, and I’m sure it gives other book bloggers/reviewers a thrill too.
I honestly never thought that I would ever even attempt to read a book about aliens, but you know when those aliens are as hot as Daemon Black you just have to give them a chance. Granted Daemon is a major ass for a majority of the book, when I read the back of the book and it said how much of a jerk he was I figured okay he is a bad boy which I like. But no he isn’t even a dark bad boy he’s just plain old mean! But very attractive.
Back to the whole alien thing, when I picked it up I was trying to think about what they would look like outside of their human forms, and I honestly could not figure out what they would look like. But I really liked their alien form just pretty shimmering light its almost relaxing!
Can I just say how much I loved Dee! She was so bubbly and bright you just could not be in a bad mood while her character was in the pages, even when Daemon was being rude if she was in the scene you could not help but smile. She was most definitely my favorite character. I can strongly say this book gets a full 5 out of 5 stars!

I should probably start off by saying that I had my doubts about this book. I tend to dislike books everyone raves about and the hype surrounding this book (and the entire series thus far) has been insane. The hype almost scared me off from reading this and I'm actually really glad that I picked it up because I absolutely loved it.
It was nice to see a book about aliens in YA instead of the usual vampires/werewolves/faeries which make up the stories for a lot of the genre. Really how many alien young adult books are out there? I can't think of many. And the fact that there were good aliens and bad aliens just made the story even better.
I loved the plot. Also the story behind the aliens was extremely well thought out and didn't sound ridiculous and was completely original. I loved the fact that different aliens had different powers and no two had the same level of power. Yet even with this they all blended into human society quite well.
I loved Katy. She was obsessed with books, had a book review blog and didn't put up with any of Daemon's crap. Because trust me there was a ton of crap from him. That boy seriously got on my nerves in the beginning, to the point where I wanted to smack him. He eventually grew on me when the other, nicer side of him made appearances.
When I finished this book I went out and ordered Onyx, the second book in the series. I can't wait to start it and I hope this series just gets better and better?

“I hate you and your freaky alien powers.”
? Jennifer L. Armentrout, Obsidian
Katy had no idea that when her and her mom moved to the sleepy little town in West Virginia her life would get turned upside down and thrown sideways. Katy just wanted to be left alone and read books. Her favorite thing was being surrounded by her books and posting reviews on her blog. If she would have had even the tiniest inkling that her new next door neighbors weren’t human, she probably would not have knocked on their door.
Daemon Black did not want to like Katy. Nothing good could come from fraternizing with humans. His brother found that out the hard way. Now Daemon had to protect what was left of his family, and falling for a human could jeopardize everyone that he loves. Daemon will learn sometimes fate has a different plan.
Katy and Daemon are ready to kill each other. They both are fighting their attraction with sarcastic humor and witty criticisms. Can the battle of wits save them from each other or will the very thing that they are fighting knock them flat on their butts…
Obsidian is an “Up all night” read. The chemistry that sparks between Katy and Daemon is electrifying. Just when you think they will succumb to their passion…one of them opens their mouth’s! This is not love at first sight…more like hate a first word! Wrap up in your favorite blanket and drown yourself in the world of the Luxen and their feisty next door neighbor!

Steph's Mini Review:
OH. MY. GOD.
I LOVED THIS BOOK.
JLA is my YA Fiction Queen.
When I first read the blurb, I was a little iffy on it...totally hot alien jerk? Interesting combination, I think we've seen this before. Oh well! Lets read it anyways!
Oh I don't know what I was thinking feeling so sarcastic towards it because it was AMAZING first page to last. I literally read this in one sitting, even though I actually had tons of work I needed to get done. I thought Obsidian would kind of be one of those pass and go kind of YA books, you read it and its over.
Nope. Not at all. I was gushing about Daemon (still am today) for a veeeery long time before I got over it. He may be jerkish, but he is my hot sexy (insert as many compliments as you can) alien darling. Then Onyx came out and the cycle started again. I think my friends are going to start avoiding me because of it.
The plot of Obsidian was actually quite original! I'm really happy its not about vampires or werewolves or any of those cliché topics you find on every YA shelf. (No, I don't really have much against werewolves or vampires, but just saying) Aliens!!! No, not the green little blobs, but really hot (quite literally) Aliens!!! I loved Obsidians plot, and it was very fast past all the way to the end, typical JLA. It just plowed right through the gates!
Obsidian deserves every one of those shiny 5 stars, and I recommend everyone put this on your to-read list!!!

Katy is feisty and strong willed. Daemon is protective, and a jerk. Dee is just the right amount of bubbly. These three characters are the main players in the story, and they are all wonderfully dynamic. None of them are one sided, and since Katy moves in next door to these two, nothing is quite as simple as it may look on the surface.
The story is from Katy’s point of view, and Jennifer L. Armentrout did a great job at giving her a back-story without it being an information dump. She also does a very good job at weaving Daemon and Dee a back-story.
If you read the synopsis, there’s no attempt to hide from you that Daemon and Dee are aliens—but watching Katy learn and figure it out is very interesting. The pacing is perfect, and at a very logical speed.
Now the more you learn about these aliens, and what they have to deal with the less Daemon looks like a total jerk. Because in this story the author managed to weave a powerful enemy, huge secrets, and a forbidden romance—who doesn’t love a forbidden romance?—into a very conclusive, well written story.
Like I said, nothing in this story is simple or straightforward—at least not in the beginning. This just adds to the fun, and the story.

Jennifer L. Armentrout is absolutely amazing!!! I just finished Half-Blood, Pure, and Obsidian in less than 3 days (with an 8 month old baby constantly needing my attention), and I already find myself needing more!!!! Apparently, her writing is my drug of choice!!!
When I first read the description, I thought to myself, "Aliens? Really?" But then I started reading and it was like I couldn't stop...I didn't even eat...I needed to finish this book like I needed air!!! So....here's my list of Why I Love JLA and Obsidian more than air.
1.) Witty banter--Katy and Daemon are constantly bickering with each other, pushing each other's buttons in the perfect I-hate-you-so-shut-up-and-kiss-me way. I found myself jealous that my husbad and I don't argue like we hate each other (I know, it's crazy...again, why JLA is crack!). Their conversations are clever and rude with just the right amount of foreplay! (Can I say that on here? I hope so!)
2.) Daemon--the arrogant, self-absorbed (or so we think), super chiseled resident hottie in Obsidian. He's just so (insert girly swoon sound)....yummy. He's quick on his feet, has a blaring temper (which I love), and can kick butt! Any girl would swoon over this guy!
3.) Alex--she's smart and doesn't take any crap from anyone--my kind of heroine. She's just a normal girl that gets thrown into a not so normal world--I like that she's normal, no witchy powers or anything. Makes me believe something magical can happen to us all!!!
4.) The Setting--there are so many great scenes in this book. The woods provide a great place to build suspense and romance. And then there's the lake--oh, the lake. I loved the scenes at the lake! Just go read it! Now!
5.) And finally....Daemon...again. Seriously, he makes me tingle.
So, I demand you go buy a copy of this book today!!!! It'll be one of the best decisions you've ever made!!!
